Cambria Hotel Chelsea, New York City

Cambria Hotel Chelsea New York CityWe chose to stay at the Cambria Hotel Chelsea based on price and location. We were not disappointed and can highly recommend a stay at the Cambria.

The Cambria is a new hotel (built in 2015) and is fresh, clean and modern. Our room was a Deluxe King Guestroom – 1302 on the 13th floor, at the back of the building away from the street, so nice and quiet.

Montauk Manor, Montauk, Long Island, NY

Montauk Manor, Long Island, NYMontauk Manor is an historic condominium resort hotel located on a hilltop in the small community of Montauk on the eastern tip of Long Island (on the south shore or South Fork). There are 140 apartments available – from studios to 3 bedrooms. Apartments are individually owned so each is decorated differently.

We can’t help but be impressed by the grand Tudor Revival building as we drive up the sweeping drive to check in. We receive a friendly welcome at Reception and book into Apartment 412 – a 2-bedroom apartment, with one bedroom actually in a loft.

Harbor View Hotel, Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard, MA, USA

Harbor View Hotel, Edgartown,The Harbor View Hotel is an historic hotel in a beautiful setting in Edgartown – with views of the harbour, Edgartown Lighthouse and Chappaquiddick Island. It is conveniently located a short stroll to the shops and restaurants of Edgartown.

Arriving at the hotel we were very impressed. The lobby is beautifully furnished in a casually elegant coastal style. There is a wrap-around veranda at the front of the hotel with pretty green rocking chairs – a perfect spot to enjoy the view.

Reception is off to one side of the lobby and we had a quick and easy check in – Room 924 in the Governor Mayhew Wing of the hotel.

Four Points by Sheraton – Logan Airport, Boston USA

Four Points by Sheraton – Logan Airport, Boston

When looking for an affordable hotel near Boston’s Logan Airport we chose Four Points by Sheraton.

We were passing through Boston having flown in from Reykjavik (Iceland) and spent one night near the airport before hiring a car the next day for a road trip down the coast to NYC.

Arriving at Logan Airport we took the free shuttle bus to the hotel, although the hotel wasn’t as close to the airport as we thought – it was 4.5 miles away.

Sem Apartments, Reykjavik, Iceland

Apartment 1, Sem Apartments, ReykjavikSem Apartments has an excellent location in the centre of Reykjavik. We are in walking distance of the main shopping area, the Hallgrimskirkja church and the harbour.

The apartments are in a corrugated iron building – typical of the beautiful older-style buildings in Reykjavik’s centre.

We obtain the key from a key box and walk a few stairs down to Apartment 1.

On entering, it is a warm and cosy haven from the cold outside. The apartment is clean, fresh and well decorated. It is a small apartment with two small bedrooms, very small bathroom and open plan living/dining/kitchen area. It is well designed and cheerful.

Egils Guesthouse, Borgarnes, Iceland

Egils GuesthouseOn the 7th night of our trip around the Ring Road of Iceland we have booked an apartment in Egils Guesthouse in Borgarnes. This is one our favourite accommodations of the trip.

We have a 2-bedroom apartment at No. 6. It is a very charming apartment and the owners have put a lot of thought into the decorating and the amenities provided for their guests. There are some very thoughtful touches.

The entry hall has a row of hooks and shelving for our coats, car keys, etc. Off this entry hall are two bedrooms, and a wide opening to the kitchen and living room, with the bathroom off to the right.

Guesthouse Stong & Cottages, near Lake Myvatn, Iceland

Stong_Guesthouse_CottagesOn the fifth night of our Ring Road self-drive tour of Iceland, we stay in a cottage at Guesthouse Stong, 13kms from Lake Myvatn.

It is a cold day and we are glad to see the guesthouse – located on a 1100 hectare farm on the eastern side of Lake Myvatn. After checking in at the Guesthouse, the friendly owner points us to the nearest cottage. We are the only guests staying tonight, as it is the end of the season.

Our timber cottage has three bedrooms. It is very small and the bedrooms can only be described as tiny – however it is clean, warm, cosy and comfortable.
