Room 1, 41 on Market

Room 1

On a recent road trip in South Africa, we had intended to stay at Mokala Game Reserve near Kimberly however taking a wrong turn meant having to change plans and look for accommodation in Vryburg late in the afternoon on a Wednesday evening in September. Who would have thought that the B&Bs we phoned would all be full? There was a car rally in town on the weekend and guests had arrived early in the week and it seemed the whole town was fully booked.

But then we tried 41 on Market – success. We were able to book a double room.

41 on Market has only been opened about 12 months so everything is clean and new. It occupies a renovated older-style building with large rooms, high ceilings and big windows in the main street of Vryburg.

We were able to park at the back of the building in a secure, fenced, outdoor carpark and took the lift to the first floor where we found Reception. After a friendly and efficient check in, we were booked into Room 1 – down the end of the hall from the dining room and reception.

The room was very large with a king-sized bed plus a single bed, sofa, small fridge, TV, wardrobe and tea-making facilities.

There was a good-sized bathroom featuring a shower, pedestal basin and toilet.

Although dinner was available at the hotel, we went to the local Spur for delicious ribs and steak – highly recommended.

We enjoyed a good breakfast at 41 on Market in the dining room where we could sit inside or on the terrace in the sun, before making a fairly early departure to Johannesburg – this time on the right road.
