This lodge provides rooms, apartments, dorm beds and has a new area for camping – powered and non powered sites. It is a small camping area but each campervan site has a picnic table next to it and there is a separate spot for tents.
Facilities are brand new and include a small toilet/shower block with separate amenities for men and women. There is a very comfortable community kitchen/lounge/dining area that has three large pine tables/benches, a lounge area with TV, and a kitchen that is well equipped.
Other amenities include a small children’s playground, a small guest laundry and soon there will be BBQs.
Everything is spotlessly clean.
There was a very friendly and helpful young man on Reception when we checked in.
We ate out for dinner at Schnapps where we had the lamb shank meal. The pub has lovely views of the mountain (snow capped), a good atmosphere and the food was good.
National Park is a small town so it is possible to walk to most amenities that include:
- a petrol station/Four Square supermarket
- Schnapps (the pub) – we ate
- Station Café
- Macrocarpa Café
- The Park Hotel – also has a restaurant
National Park village is located 15kms from Whakapapa village – the gateway to Tongariro National Park.
