Wildflowers in Namaqua National Park

The wildflower season on the West Coast of South Africa runs from August through to September. This year (2015) has been reported as the best year to see the flowers since 2007 so no time like the present to catch this amazing natural wonder.

We had a rental car and were looking forward to a 6-day road trip to the West Coast, Northern Cape, North West Province, and finally Johannesburg.

Eating Out in Knysna, South Africa

Knysna is a popular destination in South Africa. Located on the scenic Garden Route on the south-eastern coast between Mossel Bay and Storms River, Knysna is an ideal stopover when exploring the Western Cape.

Knysna is about a five-hour drive east of Cape Town and has much to offer – beautiful scenery, beaches and forests as well as unique attractions including Knysna Elephant Park, Garden of Eden, Monkey Land – just to name a few. Knysna offers plenty of excellent accommodation and a host of wonderful restaurants.

Eating out is part of the fun on holidays but can sometimes be a hit and miss affair. On a recent trip to Knysna we discovered some new places to eat and some local favourites.

Take a Photo Tour of Namibia

When we mentioned to people we were going to Namibia, there were two distinct reactions. Those who hadn’t been there asked where it was, and those who had been there got a dreamy look in their eyes and said ‘You’ll love it. Wish we could go again.” After a 12-day self-drive camping trip to Namibia, we now know why people love it. Namibia is a beautiful country of magnificent landscapes, wide-open spaces and friendly people. It is relatively unspoilt by tourism and much of the country is sparsely populated. The landscape looks as though it has remained unchanged for centuries. (more…)

On a recent trip to South Africa, we travelled one of South Africa’s most scenic drives – Route 62.

While based in Knysna we planned to spend a few days in Cape Town. The direct route from Knysna to Cape Town is just over 5 hours driving time, or 480kms, on the N2 – the coastal road. However we love to travel inland – along Route 62 – a much more scenic trip with majestic mountains, country landscapes and charming towns along the way.

Knysna

Photos of Knysna

Knysna is one of the prettiest places you will visit in South Africa. Located approximately five hours drive from Cape Town, Knysna is on the Garden Route, about half way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The closest airport is George.

Knysna is set on a beautiful lagoon with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other.

We are regular travellers to Knysna and stay with family in Belvidere, just outside of Knysna, but there are plenty of wonderful places to stay in and around Knysna. We would recommend bed & breakfast accommodation and there are lots of good quality places to choose from. Leisure Island is a pretty place to stay. On the Heads you will have spectacular views over Knysna or on Thesen Island or the Waterfront you are quite close to town. If you want to stay at Belvidere have a look at Belvidere Manor and cottages.
